New York Has Cats
New York is a big city, but there is always room for cats! It's no secret that our publisher hails from New York and one of our offices is located there, so we have celebrated the cats of New York before. But with the Cat Writers' Association (CWA) coming to nearby White Plains this month, there will be even more cats than ever. In addition to attending and presenting at the conference, this month we will be taking a look at just how many ways New York celebrates cats. We'll be blogging about it, we'll be posting more items about New York cats. We are not just talking about live cats – once we started looking we found that cat imagery is everywhere – from the Hello Kitty Cat at Lever House on Park Avenue to precious artworks at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the logo on the Tomcat Bakery trucks delivering their delicious breads to New York's top restaurants, hotels and retail outlets. We also invite you to take a look at our earlier interview with Dr. Arnold Plotnick, a CWA member and a New York City board certified feline veterinarian.
The Cat Writers' conference will be held November 19-21 in conjunction with the Westchester Cat Show at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, NY. The Westchester Cat Show will be held November 21-22 at the Westchester County Center, Bronx River Parkway, White Plains, New York.
The CWA conference will feature 18 seminars designed to help authors with pitching, learn social media, improve interview skills, etc. and editor/agent appointments on a first come first serve basis. On Friday, there will be a dinner followed by speaker Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald of Animal Planet's Emergency Vets. Lunch on Saturday will be followed by speaker Leslie A. Lyons, PhD, an associate professor at the University of California, Davis. On Saturday afternoon from 3-5 PM EST at the Westchester Cat Show, there will be a Pet Book Autograph Party where attendees are encouraged to meet and greet with their favorite CWA authors. Finally, there will be an awards dinner featuring the coveted Muse Medallion™ Winners and more than $10,000 in prizes.
The Westchester Cat Show features over 225 feline entries in a wide variety of breeds for competition. There will be a large amount of kittens and cats available for sale or adoption, and a number of vendors featuring a wide variety of cat-inspired clothing, jewelry and home décor.
New York is buzzing (well, meowing) with excitement about cats! These two events are sure to spark the interest of the cities biggest cat lovers. If you didn't know, now you do…New York has cats!
