Lyme disease is a dangerous, tick-borne bacterial disease that affects both people and dogs. First discovered in Lyme, Connecticut in 1975, the disease has spread throughout the United States and its reported cases are on the rise. Studies indicate that dogs are 50 percent more susceptible than humans.
Lyme disease in dogs is a serious illness, which left untreated can lead to kidney failure, heart damage, arthritis and death. A vaccine called LymeVax, administered by veterinarians, is available from Fort Dodge Animal Health to protect dogs from this serious disease.
