Known around the globe as a leading medical investigator in comparative oncology and veterinary clinical oncology, Dr. Susan Cotter has made significant contributions to the welfare of companion animals throughout her lifetime of work as a medical investigator, educator, and clinician.

To recognize Dr. Cotter's accomplishments, Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. has named Dr. Cotter as the 2003 recipient of the Mark L. Morris, Sr. Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Cotter has been at the forefront of pioneering research that has lead to the current understanding of the epidemiology of feline leukemia virus (FeLV) infections, she has set standards for the profession in regard to chemotherapy in canines and felines and has also received merits for her outstanding lectures and speeches.

In addition, Dr. Cotter's FeLV work contributed significantly to the rapid pace of early research into human Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
